Massive Search Operations Continue To Rescue Missing Individuals At Tupul Railway Station Manipur

Around midnight of 29/ 30 June, a massive landslide struck the company location of 107 Territorial Army of Indian Army deployed near Tupul Railway Station in Noney district,  Manipur for protection of under construction railway line from Jiribam to Imphal

Troops of the Indian Army Assam Rifles and Territorial Army continued the rescue operations throughout the day in general area of Tupul railway station, Noney district, Manipur in spite of inclement weather. Teams of Indian railways, civil administration, NDRF, SDRF and locals of Noney District are also actively contributing to the search.

So far 13 soldiers of the Territorial Army and 05 Civilians have been rescued, while the mortal remains of seven soldiers and one civilian have been recovered.

Relentless search operations will continue during the night.  Engineering equipment including dozers has been pressed into service for creating access to the incident site and to help in the rescue efforts.

The civil administration has cautioned civilians living in downstream areas of the river to take precautions and evacuate due to the likelihood of a breach in the dam created on the river by the landslide.

Full-scale rescue operations were started by columns of the Indian Army and Assam Rifles. The available engineer plant equipment on site has been pressed into the rescue efforts.

As of reports received at 0530hr, 13 individuals had been rescued. The injured individuals are being treated at Noney Army Medical unit. Evacuation of the critically injured personnel was undertaken. The flow of Ijai river has been affected due to the landslide.

Rescue operations are being hampered by fresh landslides and bad weather, however, a concerted effort is underway to rescue the missing individuals. The Army helicopters are on standby waiting for the weather to clear.

GOC in C Eastern Command, Lt Gen RP Kalita, and GOC Spear Corps, Lt Gen RC Tiwari moved to the incident site and took stock of the rescue efforts. Chief Minister of Manipur N.Biren Singh also visited the incident site, for first hand inputs on the rescue operations.
