Silchar: Cachar District Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta chaired a meeting at the Old Conference Hall to review the ongoing utility shifting work and ensure that drainage construction along Medical Road begins without further delay.

Representatives of concerned line departments, PWD Roads, Silchar Division, the contractor, local residents and the Principal of Silchar Polytechnic attended the meeting.

Around 300 metres of dismantling work has already been completed. Following the DC’s directions, it was decided that roadside drain construction will begin once a stretch of around 500 to 600 metres is cleared. Utility shifting will continue simultaneously in phases to minimise disruption to essential services, including water, gas and electricity.

The meeting also discussed identifying and installing three suitable drainage outlets to ensure smooth discharge of rainwater and prevent waterlogging along the road.

The District Commissioner directed all concerned departments and agencies to maintain close coordination and speed up the work. The aim is to complete the road improvement and drainage works efficiently while causing minimum inconvenience to the public.
