Baruipur | The National Commission for Women (NCW) has taken suo motu cognizance of media reports concerning the alleged rape and murder of a 12-year-old girl in Baruipur, South 24 Parganas, West Bengal, along with the subsequent incidents of mob violence that followed the crime.
Expressing grave concern over the incident, the Commission has directed the Director General of Police, West Bengal, to submit a detailed Action Taken Report (ATR) within seven days.
The NCW has sought information on the registration of the FIR under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and the POCSO Act, the immediate arrest of all those allegedly involved in the rape and murder, and the current status of the investigation.
The Commission has also sought details regarding the probe into the subsequent mob lynching, the action taken against those involved, and whether any lapses in policing or preventive measures contributed to the situation.
Additionally, the NCW has asked for information on the forensic and post-mortem examinations conducted in the case, as well as the medical, psychological, legal, and compensation support provided to the victim’s family.
Reaffirming its zero tolerance policy towards crimes against women and girls, the Commission has called for a swift, impartial, and comprehensive investigation, urging authorities to ensure strict legal action against all those found responsible.
