New India calls for a New North East

Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh assured the people that the Narendra Modi government is committed to ensuring socio-economic development of this region as per its potential and to also ensure peace and prosperity to the citizen. The NDA government has renamed the Look East Policy as Act East Policy and is taking keen interest to act as a link with the South East Asian countries. To bring in economic development in the region, the NDA government is trying to bring in infrastructure strengthening, manufacturing, trade, tourism, skill development, urban renewal, smart cities, and ‘Make in India’ get emphasised in all the eight North-Eastern states.

If India is to evolve as a ‘New India’, development of the North-Eastern states should be given priority.

While addressing the concluding session of the 67th plenary session of the North Eastern Council (NEC) in Shillong on Tuesday , June 30th Union Home Minister Rajnath  Singh assured the people that Narendra Modi government is committed to ensuring socio-economic development of this region as per its potential and to also ensure peace and prosperity to the citizen.

The meeting was also attended by the Union minister of state (Independent charge) for the development of the northeastern region (DoNER), Dr. Jitendra Singh, who is also the vice-chairman of the NEC. Governors, Chief Ministers and senior officers of the eight North-Eastern states were also present.

The NDA government has renamed the Look East Policy as Act East Policy and is taking keen interest to act as a link with the South East Asian countries.

The Act East Policy is an NDA Government policy that puts emphasis on the Pacific countries along with the South East Asian countries.

The Act Easy Policy recognises the position of the North East of India as the opening to the East and consequently, the expansion of the North-Eastern region is a precedence in the policy. To bring in economic development in the region, the NDA government is trying to bring in infrastructure strengthening, manufacturing, trade, tourism, skill development, urban renewal, smart cities, and ‘Make in India’ get emphasised in all the eight North-Eastern states.

Singh feels that better road connectivity would strengthen its ties with other states and give a boost to investment by encouraging investors to visit the state.

Advancement in communication technology is the need of the day and this would open up avenues of employment and prevent local youths to migrate to other cities in search of jobs. Singh assured that to maintain the peaceful scene of the state, the NDA govt, would continue to lend support to improve the infrastructure for the police forces.

For marketing of the agricultural products, he urged on the need for the revival of  North Eastern Regional Agricultural Marketing Corporation Limited (NERAMAC)
