Rail and road communication affected in Dima Hasao

Based on forewarning issued by Indian Meteorological Department, Regional Meteorological Center, Guwahati, about possibilities of heavy downpour in the hills of Dima Hasao from today till 15th May and to assist the continuing restoration works of the Jatinga-Harangajao stretch of NH 27.

The District Disaster Management Authority, Dima Hasao has restricted movement of all heavy commercial vehicles on that stretch from today; they have been advised to reach destinations of South Assam through Meghalaya.

District Commissioner of Dima Hasao Simanta Kumar Das has appealed to the citizens not to venture out during rain particularly during night except for medical purposes or emergencies. The district administration has identified relief camps and food supplies have been reviewed with the civil supply department.

After a road collapse in between Harangajao and Miyungkhro due to massive rain on Wednesday night Haflong-Silchar road communications were disrupted, resulting in large numbers of vehicles from both sides struck up. Later small vehicles passed through a substitute path, but hundreds of commercial trucks were stuck till Friday.

This road in Dima Hasao is a vital communication line for supply of essential commodities for South Assam’s Barak valley district, Mizoram, Tripura and Manipur.
