Guwahati: Leader of the Opposition in the Assam Assembly, Debabrata Saikia, on Tuesday dismissed exit poll predictions projecting a win for the BJP-led NDA in the state, asserting that the “common people have not voted for BJP.”

Speaking to reporters, the Congress leader from Nazira constituency said he does not attach much importance to exit polls and maintained that there is a strong undercurrent against the ruling party across Assam.

Saikia claimed that a significant section of “silent voters” along with young voters were not in favour of the BJP, suggesting that their preferences may not be reflected in the surveys.

He added that the actual outcome of the Assam Assembly Elections 2026 would only be clear when votes are counted on May 4.
