Silchar: The Assam State Election Commission on Wednesday announced the schedule for the much-awaited election to the 42 wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
According to a notification issued by State Election Commissioner Ranjan Sharma, polling will be held on October 3, 2026, from 7:30 am to 4 pm. Counting of votes will take place on October 6 from 8 am and will continue until the counting process is completed.
The election notification was issued on September 2, marking the beginning of the election process.The last date for filing nominations is September 11. Scrutiny of nomination papers will be held on September 14, when the list of validly nominated candidates will also be published.

Candidates can withdraw their candidature up to September 17. The final list of contesting candidates will also be published on the same day.If required, a fresh poll will be held on October 5, from 7:30 am to 4 pm.
The Silchar Municipal Corporation was constituted with 42 wards by the Governor of Assam through a Gazette notification dated November 28, 2024. Reservation of wards for Scheduled Caste and women candidates was notified by the government in December 2024.
The ward-wise photo electoral rolls for the election were prepared and published by the State Election Commission on July 15, 2026.
With the issuance of the election notification, the Model Code of Conduct has come into force with immediate effect across the entire Silchar Municipal Corporation area.The State Election Commission has directed the Cachar District Commissioner to give public notice of the election as required under the Assam Municipal Corporation Election Rules, 2022.
The notification has also been circulated to senior officials of the Assam government, the Cachar administration, Silchar Municipal Corporation, police authorities, political parties and other concerned departments.The election will decide the councillors representing all 42 wards of the Silchar Municipal Corporation.
