Silchar: In an effort to keep the town clean and reduce the risk of waterlogging during the monsoon season, the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) has intensified its drainage cleaning operations across various parts of the town.
As part of the ongoing drive, drain cleaning work was carried out along Malugram Shivbari Road with the help of a Mini Super Sucker Machine. Sanitation workers were also deployed to manually clean drains and remove accumulated silt, garbage and other obstructions to ensure the smooth flow of water.

According to officials, the initiative is aimed at improving the town’s drainage infrastructure and mitigating waterlogging in vulnerable areas during heavy rainfall. The civic body has been undertaking regular maintenance and cleaning activities to ensure drains remain free from blockages.
The Municipal Corporation stated that the campaign forms part of its broader efforts to enhance civic services, maintain cleanliness and create a healthier living environment for residents. Officials added that the drive will continue in different localities, with special attention being given to areas prone to drainage congestion and flooding.
The SMC has reiterated its commitment to strengthening sanitation and drainage management across the town and ensuring that all neighbourhoods receive timely civic attention.
