Imphal: In a major development in the case of six persons abducted from Leilon Vaiphei on May 13, Manipur Police on Wednesday confirmed the recovery of mortal remains believed to be those of the missing hostages.

According to an official statement issued by Manipur Police, the remains were recovered following nearly 24 hours of intensive search operations involving around 450 personnel from the Manipur Police, the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), and the Assam Rifles. The operation was supported by sniffer dogs and forensic experts.

The recovery was made on Wednesday afternoon after extensive searches in the area where the hostages were believed to have been taken.

Police stated that the deceased are suspected to be among the six individuals who were abducted during the May 13 incident. However, formal identification of the bodies and forensic examinations are yet to be completed as part of the ongoing investigation.

Authorities said all necessary legal procedures are being carried out and investigations into the circumstances surrounding the abduction and deaths remain underway.

The confirmation of the recovery marks a tragic turn in a case that has generated widespread concern across Manipur and beyond. Families of the missing persons, community organisations, and civil society groups had been anxiously awaiting information regarding their fate.

Further details are expected once forensic examinations and official identification processes are completed.
