Bizarrely enough, the Forest Range Officer of Eastern Range Bokajan, Nickson Ronghang, approached the KSA for finding the middle ground by deputing one of his staff for making the deal.

That particular staff member made several calls to the student’s organization. KSA has alleged that the range officer in question receives kickback of Rs 1,500 from each truck, carrying sand regardless of having needed papers.

The student organization has demanded stringent action against Ranger Nickson Ronghang for damaging Laichan Nihanglangso River.

On the other hand the Autonomous State Demand Committee, Karbi Students Association and youth front of ASDC have alleged unabated unlawful coal mining inside reserve forests of Karbi Anglong which has put the bionetwork in danger for cheap gain.

They have given a memorandum to the Chief Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council in this respect.

The memo has mentioned that unrestrained coal mining in forested areas has destroyed the ecology and wildlife habitation.

The degraded forest has affected the biodiversity, plant and wild animal species are extinguishing. The Disobai River is contaminated for unbridled coal and sand mining.

The aquatic life has also been badly affected. The memo has mentioned that illegal coal mining is mostly taking place in Nambor, Bithiplang, Koilajan, Disobai, and Klurdung (Bakulia).
