Silchar: A 15-year-old girl from Uttar Pradesh’s Firozabad district went missing after she allegedly fell into a waterfall in Meghalaya’s Sohra region on Wednesday, April 29, officials said.

The incident took place at the popular Wei Sawdong Falls, a well-known tourist spot, where the teenager had arrived with her family on vacation.

According to officials, the girl reportedly slipped while attempting to take photographs near the edge of the waterfall and fell into one of the deep natural pools below. The area is known for its steep terrain and strong water currents, making rescue efforts challenging.

Rescue teams were immediately deployed and carried out an extensive search operation throughout the day. However, the girl could not be traced before nightfall.

Authorities said the search and rescue operation will resume on Thursday morning, with additional personnel likely to be deployed.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over tourist safety at high-risk natural sites in Meghalaya, especially during peak travel season.
