The recent numerous incidence of cloud bursts, landslides, unusual floods has almost become like a routine incident during past years. Many lives are at stake due to sudden phenomenon which comes without prior notice to all humankind.

Dr.Anil Prakash Joshi, a Padmashri and Padma Bhusan Awardee who is also an environmentalist urged that it’s indeed a correct time for collective actions to save the Himalayas and Himalayan people.

He expressed his views on a Webinar entitled, ” Himalayan Future: Beyond 2050″.

A famous innovator who created the ice stupa and artificial glaciers, yes we all know him as Sonam Wangchuk felt the same thing as shared by Dr.Joshi.

There won’t be far when defence won’t be against an army or country but only a red signal from climate change which has already started. He strongly appealed that all need to get their acts together at this hour. 20-30 years down the line chances of lake burst are likely to occur which could be avoided only with human intervention. This could be only possible with proper Researches and Developments dedicated to such a delicate issue.

Prof.P.C Joshi, VC, University of Delhi gave a clarion call to all the people in this country to join hands in saving the Himalayas.

He also stated that the University of Delhi has established a CENTRE FOR HIMALAYAN STUDIES on the campus. This could enable studies and researches on every aspect of the Himalayas. Himalayan Museum could be visible on the campus in the coming months, all kinds of necessary help would be extended from the University, as expressed by Dr.Joshi.

Founder Director, Centre of Himalayan Studies, Delhi University, Prof.Dinabandhu Sahoo who was also the former Director of IBSD, Government of India at North East stated that one needs to protect and preserve the Himalayan Bio-resources including the unique culture of this region.

The Himalayan Centre will work in collaboration with various National and International organisations and also with the people at the grassroots level living in different Himalayan states.

Dr.Anil Joshi further reiterated that narratives must now shift from economic activity to environmental activity. The primary role of the local community is always the saviour of the Himalayas by keeping their life at stake. The economic and ecological disparity could be clearly seen in this region.

Later an MoU has also been signed between Delhi University and the University of Ladakh, where Dr.Sonam Jolden is in charge of the Centre of Himalayan and Trans Himalayan Studies at Ladakh.

Dr.Anil Joshi, Sonam Wangchuk also lauded the combined efforts of Delhi University for setting up the Himalayan centre and further agreed to extend all possible help.
