Sudip Roy Barman, who left BJP six months back and joined Congress after his differences with the former Chief Minister Biplab Deb was seriously injured in a political clash yesterday late night in the Abhaynagar area of the city. He is currently undergoing treatment at ILS Hospital. He was allegedly attacked by some BJP miscreants.

Police are unable to say much on the questions raised on how did he get injured and where were his bodyguards?

Both Congress and BJP have filed an FIR alleging political hooliganism against each other. The Congress party today gheraoed the East Tripura Police station led by Ajay Kumar, AICC General Secretary, and Congress party members. They demanded the immediate arrest of the culprit.

Senior Congress Leader and Ex MLA Asish Saha said Sudip was attacked when he was visiting the house of a Congress worker named Alok Ranjan Goswami. Earlier miscreants attacked Alok’s house. After receiving the said information about the attack at Alok Ranjan Goswami, Sudip Barman along with some Congress supporters went there. Asish Saha alleged that the police were there at that time. But they did nothing. At the time of Sudip’s attack, state Information minister Sushanta Chowdhury and 6 Agartala constituency’s BJP candidate Dr. Ashok Sinha were present at the scene, alleged former MLA Asish Saha.

While refuting the allegations Minister Sushanta Chowdhury in a presser stated that Sudip Roy Barman is orchestrating a political drama to get sympathy votes looking into his loss of mass support. He compared the incident to that of Mamata Banerjee during her Nandigram campaign feigned being hit by BJP workers but still, she could not defeat Subhendu Adhikari during the West Bengal elections. He further downplayed the incident and asked the media to report sensibly. He also informed that the Minister himself requested Sudip Roy Barman to leave the scene as the party members were out of control from both sides.

Political leaders like former Chief Minister and communist leader Manik Sarkar, Pabitra Kar, former CPI(M) Minister, and many well wishers have visited Sudip Roy Barman in the hospital. The physician who treated him at the hospital informed him that Sudip had suffered a brick hit and injured his front jaw.

Meanwhile, in another incident miscreants entered the house of Asim Sarkar, president of DYFI Jirania Division, at 2.30 am on Saturday night with firearms. The miscreants search for the young leader Asim. Unable to find him, miscreants grabbed his father’s head with a pistol and allegedly looted all his belongings, including gold ornaments. Leader of the opposition Manik Sarkar visited his residence on Sunday along with other party leaders. He condemned the incident and demanded the immediate arrest of the culprits.

The political environment in Tripura is heating up which is going for By-election in four assembly seats namely Agartala, Town Bordowali, Jubarajnagar, and Surma on June 23rd and the campaigning will end on June 21st. Political heavyweights like Assam Chief Minister and TMC All India General Secretary Abhishek Banerjee had campaigned in the state besides many others. Political violence is a hallmark of the state and security arrangements are the challenges of the administration.
