Padma Shri Dr. Kiran Seth at the end of his Solo Cycle Yatra from Kashmir to Kanyakumari visited Imphal and addressed the students of National Institute of Technology Manipur here today. Dr. Seth is the former Professor at IIT-Delhi & Founder of SPIC MACAY (Society for the Promotion of Indian Classical Music And Culture Amongst Youth) a 45-year-old, apolitical, voluntary, young people’s movement that has been organising programmes of classical music & dance, folk music & dance, meditation, yoga, cinema screenings, talks by eminent persons, heritage walks, craft workshops in school and colleges, to inspire students to take an active interest in Indian heritage.

Addressing the students at NIT Manipur campus, he appealed to the students and faculties to volunteer in the upcoming six workshops of five days each in fifteen relief camps in Imphal.

The six workshops are based on inner well-being and shall be on indigenous and Indian music and handloom. Dr. Seth believes that this process helps in the healing part in citizens affected in conflict-torn regions as experimented in Kashmir and Punjab at the heights of terrorism.

In his deliberation, Dr. Seth stressed the concentration of students and explained how many external factors are ‘breaking’ the concentration and not ‘making’ concentration in students.

He demonstrated the technique of building concentration in students and explained how focusing on concentration can help in the success of a student’s life.

Dr Kiran Seth has been doing long distance cycling for some time now to spread the message that CYCLING is good for health – physical, mental and spiritual and for helping the environment; spread the message of SPIC MACAY and enrol new volunteers and Promote Mahatma Gandhi’s vision of simple living and high thinking.

He cycles on a simple bike with no gears, no fancy branded accessories, no paraphernalia, no GPS etc. Travelling with limited pairs of clothes and personal items, shows one can live very simply with minimal stuff.

On his way, Dr Seth addressed students, teachers, principals, and administrators on the importance of safeguarding Indian heritage and including it as an integral experiential part of our education curriculum, in line with the New National Education Policy (NEP).
