Silchar: Four families left homeless in Tuesday’s devastating fire at Kalibari Char, Janiganj, received immediate relief from the social organization Desire for Life.
In the afternoon, members of the group, led by its All India Women’s President Geeta Pandey, distributed rice, pulses, oil, spices, salt, soap, biscuits, vegetables, mosquito nets, clothes, and other essentials among the affected households.

Pandey said the victims—Lakshmi Das, Sanjay Das, Shefali Das, and Shampa Das—were now living under the open sky. She appealed to society, administration, and political leaders to step forward and support the distressed families irrespective of party, caste, or religion.
