Silchar: Four families left homeless in Tuesday’s devastating fire at Kalibari Char, Janiganj, received immediate relief from the social organization Desire for Life.

In the afternoon, members of the group, led by its All India Women’s President Geeta Pandey, distributed rice, pulses, oil, spices, salt, soap, biscuits, vegetables, mosquito nets, clothes, and other essentials among the affected households.

Pandey said the victims—Lakshmi Das, Sanjay Das, Shefali Das, and Shampa Das—were now living under the open sky. She appealed to society, administration, and political leaders to step forward and support the distressed families irrespective of party, caste, or religion.

The victims and local residents expressed gratitude to the organization for its timely assistance.

Among those present during the relief distribution were Bapon Chakraborty, Abhijit Choudhury, Tuku Khan, Geeta Chand, Sandhya Nath, Anita Adhikari, Gopal Sharma, Namita Das, Alpana Sharma, Purnima Rabidas, Mampi Chand, Swapna Rabidas, Sona Tanti, Apon Choudhury, Hossain Ahmed, Shipra Das, Taslim Ahmed, Jyotiprakash Bhattacharjee, Shampa Sharma, Ayesha Khan, Nandalal Pandey, Samir Laskar, Abhishek Pal, Liton Nath, Jyoti Kairi, Babul Goswami, and others.
