Silchar: Silchar is set to host a vibrant three-day theatre festival from October 10 to 12, organised by the Social, Cultural, Educational and Sports Development Trust — an initiative established by the late Santosh Mohan Dev. The performances will take place at Rajib Bhawan each evening from 6:30 pm.

This year’s line-up includes three acclaimed Bengali plays — Ananda, Foirari Fouz, and Kanakchapa — brought to Silchar by leading theatre groups from Kolkata. With 124 accomplished artists taking the stage, the festival promises three evenings of powerful storytelling and artistic brilliance.

The event will showcase the talents of some of Bengal’s most respected theatre personalities, including Debshankar Haldar, Debashish Roy, and Partha Bhowmick. Organisers describe the festival as a cultural offering to the people of Barak Valley — a chance to experience India’s best stage productions without leaving home.

In the run-up to the event, the Board of Trustees of the Trust met on Tuesday with representatives from Silchar’s cultural and theatre organisations. The meeting, chaired by Rajya Sabha MP Sushmita Dev, brought together several noted theatre figures who shared insights and ideas to ensure the festival’s success.

Cultural enthusiasts including Taimur Raja Choudhury, Subrata Roy, Sanjeev Roy, Santanu Paul, Sayan Biswas, Shekhar Deb Roy, Babul Hore, Nandini Chakraborty, Debashish Chakraborty, Partha Ranjan Chakraborty, Ajoy Roy, Subir Bhattacharjee, Chandan Mazumder, and others were present at the meeting.
