Cachar Police Seize Narcotics Worth Rs.4.5 Crore in Major Anti-Drug Crackdown, Multiple Arrests Made

Silchar: In a major success against drug trafficking, Cachar Police conducted a series of anti-narcotics operations across different police station areas on Wednesday, leading to the seizure of narcotic substances and contraband medicines worth approximately Rs.4.5 crore. Several individuals, including alleged drug peddlers and transporters, were apprehended during the operations.

Under the jurisdiction of Udharbond Police Station, acting on credible intelligence, police intercepted an Intra B-10 truck bearing registration number AS11DC-8629. During the search, officers recovered 8,010 bottles of 100 ml Codeine cough syrup and 150 packets of Tramadol tablets. Each packet contained 10 strips, with 24 tablets per strip, amounting to a total of 36,000 tablets. The truck driver, identified as Gyas Uddin Laskar, son of late Kutub Uddin Laskar and a resident of Durganagar Part-V (Gurali), was arrested.

In another operation under Kalain Police Station, a truck bearing registration number AS01EC2533 was intercepted at Digorkhal while travelling towards Kalain.

Police recovered 14 soap cases containing approximately 170 grams of suspected heroin. One person, identified as Azaduddin of Natanpur under Kalain Police Station, was apprehended.

Meanwhile, under Silchar Police Station, police arrested a small-time drug peddler, Ajim Uddin Laskar alias Kala, near Fatok Bazar. During the operation, 35 vials containing suspected heroin weighing around 1.7 grams were recovered from his possession.

In a separate raid near Silchar Railway Station, police apprehended a woman identified as Gul Nihar Begum Laskar. A search led to the recovery of 15 soap cases containing approximately 298 grams of suspected heroin.

Another significant seizure was made under Sonai Police Station. Based on source information, police apprehended two women, Rashmina Begum (31), wife of Moyam Hussain, and Mamataz Begum Choudhury (37), wife of Sahar Uddin Laskar. Both are residents of Makhan Nagar Bosti under Jirighat Police Station. During the search at Sonai Bazar, police recovered 11 soap cases containing suspected heroin weighing approximately 122 grams.

Police officials stated that all seized substances have been sent for further examination and legal proceedings have been initiated against the accused under relevant provisions of the law.

The coordinated operations underscore Cachar Police’s continued commitment to combating the illegal drug trade and curbing narcotics trafficking in the district.
