Silchar: The Assam Pratibandi NGO, a voluntary organisation established in 2019, on Friday submitted a memorandum to the District Commissioner of Cachar, urging the district administration to ensure that eligible persons with disabilities are brought under the National Social Assistance Programme (NSAP).

The memorandum was submitted at the office of the District Commissioner, highlighting that many members and office bearers of the organisation have not been able to avail themselves of benefits under the NSAP.

The NGO stated that they remained unaware of the scheme and its provisions for a long time and only recently learnt about it through reliable sources.

Seeking immediate intervention, the organisation appealed to the district administration to facilitate the enrolment of eligible physically disabled persons under the scheme so that they can receive the financial assistance and social security benefits provided by the Central Government.

The NGO pointed out that a large number of persons with disabilities in Cachar are living in difficult financial conditions and struggling to sustain their livelihoods because of their physical limitations. It stressed that extending NSAP benefits would provide much-needed support to these vulnerable individuals.

In the memorandum, the organisation requested the District Commissioner to take necessary steps to identify and enrol all eligible beneficiaries in the district at the earliest. The members expressed hope that the administration would give sympathetic consideration to their appeal and ensure that deserving persons with disabilities receive the benefits of the National Social Assistance Programme without further delay.
