Assam Chief Minister attends arms laying down ceremony of former DNLA at Haflong

In a significant development, 181 cadres of former Dimasa National Liberation Army (DNLA) including five females, its C-inC, and Deputy C-in-C have ceremonially laid down arms at N.L Daulagupu sports stadium at Haflong in the presence of Assam’s Chief Minister Dr. Himanta Biswa Sharma on Saturday.

The minister was accompanied by Minister Pijush Hazarika, minister Jogen Mohan, Minister Jayanta Malla Baruah, Minister Nandita Gorlosa, Dima Hasao Autonomous Council CEM Debolal Gorlosa, Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council CEM Tuliram Ronghang, Addl. Chief secretary to govt of Assam, Home and Political Department Dr. Ravi Kota,  Assam police DGP GP Singh, Addl DGP, Special Branch Hiren Chandra Nath, and other dignitaries.

Altogether, 43 numbers of arms and a few explosives including automatic and semi-automatic rifles and a thousand rounds of ammunition were deposited on the day.

A fixed deposit certificate of RS. 4 lakhs under a time financial grant was distributed to all the cadres. Against the fixed deposit the cadres can avail loans up to Rs. 3.2 lakhs.

On the day thousands of people from all walks of life gathered at the stadium to witness the arms-laying ceremony.

Dimasa bodies have urged the government to soon implement the demands made by the DNLA and earlier by both factions of DHD since those demands were for the welfare of Dimasa society.

Haflong MAC Daniel Langthasa said that all Dimasa living in different parts of the state to be brought under one umbrella with an administrative unit.

Welcoming the cadres to the mainstream DGP Singh said that 1750 arms were deposited in the last 2 years under the leadership of CM Himanta Biswa Sharma bringing peace and tranquillity to the state. He claimed that no cases of kidnapping and terrorist activities were reported in the last two years. He also requested the surrendered cadres not to be influenced by third forces and picked up arms at any cost.

CEM Gorlosa while appreciating the cadres for coming over the ground in order to bring peace to the district. He stressed on development achieved by the district in the last few years and said that the district is aiming to be in the top five districts in the state.

Minister Gorlosa said that the DNLA organization will be the last one that will end insurgency in the district. She also requested the CM for the establishment of semi-industries in the district to mitigate the unemployment problem and for socio-economic development in the district.

CM Sarma speaking to the media explained how the Assam government has been working for the development of Dima Hasao be it education, road communication, and other aspects. He assured that the Assam Government would leave no stone unturned to develop Dima Hasao in terms of tourism etc.  Comparing Dima Hasao with Shillong Dr Sarma claimed that Dima Hasao could be transformed like anything if people support the government.
