Diphu: The Nakgarik Suraksha Manch, a social organization of Karbi Anglong have alleged massive sleaze over suspected indiscretion in settlement of compensation against land acquired by Land & Revenue department of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council for construction of the Four Lane highway from Parokhuwa to Lahorijan in Karbi Anglong district.

The leaders and activists of the organization staged a ‘sit-in protest’ at Semson Sing Ingti Memorial Park of Diphu, yesterday to air their voice over the sleaze and demanded the highest level of inquiry into the issue. He demanded a CBI probe into the matter and has assured that he will take the issue to court.

President of Nakgarik Suraksha Manch, Mahajan Kro said that, compensation against land acquisition was settled in the name of the Executive Member of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, in charge Land & Revenue department, Amar Sing Tisso, and his late mother in Package 5; they jointly acquired land in approximately 15 positions in most illegal manner.

Mahajan Kro has claimed that he has sufficient evidence to prove his allegation. He mentioned that the Joint Secretary of Karbi Anglong Autonomous Council, Land & Revenue department, Tensing Rongpi, and Mandal, Tarun Rongpi, has accumulated an extensive amount of compensation money most unlawfully from this scam.

Mahajan Kro has also alleged that Mandal Tarun Rongpi got hold of around 50 plots along the national highway in the names of his wife, son, and relatives, and has gobbled compensation money from Packages 5 and 6. 

He also claimed that a number of plots of private land were classified as forest land and definite forest land as revenue land. For instance, plots of land within Marat-Longri reserve forest in Silbheta region have been classified as revenue land.
