New Delhi: Prime Minister Narendra Modi has become the second-longest serving Prime Minister in India in terms of continuous tenure, surpassing Indira Gandhi.

Modi crossed the milestone of 4,078 consecutive days in office, a record that was earlier held by Gandhi. He first took office in May 2014 and has remained in power without interruption since then.

His tenure includes three successive electoral victories in the 2014, 2019, and 2024 general elections, marking a rare political continuity in India’s democratic history.

With this, Modi now stands second only to Jawaharlal Nehru, who continues to hold the record as the longest-serving Prime Minister overall.

The milestone reflects Modi’s sustained political dominance over more than a decade, during which he has led the country through multiple national and global challenges while maintaining electoral support.
