Silchar: As part of its ongoing efforts to promote scientific waste management and civic participation, the Silchar Municipal Corporation (SMC) organized a “Nagrik Se Charcha” programme at Tarapur in Ward No. 27.

The interactive awareness session witnessed the participation of around 20 local residents, who engaged in discussions on the importance of proper household waste segregation and responsible disposal practices. Officials and members of the Solid Waste Management System (SWMS) team highlighted the role of citizens in maintaining a clean and healthy urban environment.

During the programme, residents were informed about the need to segregate biodegradable and non-biodegradable waste at the source to facilitate efficient collection, processing, and recycling. The discussion also focused on addressing local waste management challenges through community involvement and regular dialogue between citizens and municipal authorities.

Participants were encouraged to adopt sustainable waste management practices in their daily lives and contribute towards improving the city’s sanitation standards.

The programme concluded with a collective pledge by the residents to practice waste segregation and support the municipality’s efforts to build a cleaner, greener, and healthier Silchar.

Officials stated that such awareness initiatives play a vital role in strengthening public participation and ensuring the success of urban waste management programmes across the town.
